Grammy Awards 2009: The Entire Show Reviewed

Grammy 2009

8 pm: We're on guys! U2 performs they brand new single "Get On Your Boots" they're a good choice to get people amped for the show, but the sounds is NOT at its best. C'mon producers fix that!

8:05 pm: Whitney Houston looking good --and squinty-- presents the Best R&B Album... fingers crossed for Jennifer Hudson!... Dun, dun dun.. Yes, she takes it. We couldn't be more excited, this girl really deserves it.

8:10 pm: The Rock attempts to amp the crowd by listing the performances we already know are coming, come on... we're getting impatient.... cue Justin Timberlake.. we swoon. He's looking quite sparkly in that suit.

8:12 pm: Woah! Al Green, Boyz II Men and JT are bringing sexy back with this rendition of "Let's Stay Together". Now, we're feeling it... this performance is quite smooth baby... velvety even.

8:20 pm: Ohhh! The Mentalist's Simon Baker presents Coldplay's performance. We die inside with his accent. Ha,ha. Chris Martin on the piano is hot, we kinda think he should be a one man show. Jay-Z is mastering the tough art of rapping to a piano. This is pretty good. Cue the violins! "Viva la Vida" is a pretty good track --whether it's stolen or not.

8:27 pm: Keith Urban presents Oklahoma native Carrie Underwood, we're not loving her outfit, but she does have some sick legs, we're pretty jealous. AND she's pretty edgy for a country singer, she's definitely ripping this up.

8:33 pm: Sheryl Crow and Leann Rimes present the Best Country Performance by group/duo. Sugarland takes it home. We're not surprised, they've been the hot item this year.

8:42 pm: And the song of the year goes to.... Coldplay! for "Viva la Vida". Wooo, we're pretty happy Sara Bareilles didn't win, that "Love song" didn't make sense.

8:45 pm: Oh boy! Kid Rock, why? We're thinking about taking a pee break. He's just missing that little thing that makes us like our artists. A real voice... He's butchering "Sweet Home Alabama" but hey at least he wore a suit and not his trademark sweatpants.

8:52 pm: Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift take the stage to perform an acoustic version of Taylor's hit "15". We gotta say this is kind of sweet. Plus, Taylor's a talented young girl. People's fascination with Miley does remain a mystery to us, tho. Up next the Best Pop Collaboration Vocals award, Robert Plant and Alisson Krauss take it home.

9:02 pm: The stage shines with soft lights as Grammy Award winner Jennifer Hudson performs in a beautiful sparkly dress. We really have respect for this girl, who in spite of it all has managed to keep it together. The crowd honors her with a standing ovation.

9:12 pm: Teenagers rejoice! The Jonas Bros rock it out with Stevie Wonder but we think Lil Baby Jonas had a slip on the "Superstition" lyrics...maybe he was nervous to be performing with a legend.

9:16 pm: Blink-182 presents Best Rock Album. We can't believe Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus still talk to Tom Delonge, you know, the lead singer of that crappy emo band Angels and Airwaves who said they'd be bigger than U2? Guess you haven't become that big Tom. Ok, we quit the rant. Coldplay wins Best Rock Album and makes yet another reference to Sir. Paul McCartney's awesomeness.

9:23 pm: Katy Perry performs her smash hit "I Kissed a Girl" and she's dropped on-stage by a banana. We're digging her fruit salad outfit, and when we want to be stereotypically Latin we pull ours out of our closets, but hello! when you're donning fruit as an outfit you need to be able to shimmy. Katy tried and failed. This was worse than her falling on that cake at the Latin MTV VMAs.

9:26 pm: Estelle and Kanye West sing the super duper catchy "American Boy". And the sparkle motion suits continue. We want Estelle's dress and Kanye's jacket. They present the Best New Artist award to Adele. Ok, the Grammys is throwing us a few curve balls, and we're loving it. Adele is really good. Make sure you check her out, that Brit can sing!

9:35 pm: Morgan Freeman presents Kenny Chesney. We're feeling sleepy with his sound. In our opinion this should have been an opener act.

9:42 pm: The Record of the Year does to Robert Plant and Alisson Krauss. However, if a PREGNANT woman goes to the Grammy on her DUE DATE you should just hand her the award! We think M.I.A. needed to win this!

9:48 pm: Queen Latifah presents T.I., Jay-Z, M.I.A. and Kanye West and Lil Wayne performing " Swagga Like Us" How freaking adorable is Maya performing with that massive belly? She's fearless that's for sure. We also digg the "sunglasses inside" convention they had going on and how the footage went from black and white to color.Swagga like us, swagga like us...

9:52 pm: Kate Beckinsale (can she be anymore gorgeous?) presents Sir. Paul McCartney along with Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl --we have a serious crush on him and his hair. This is totally rad, and how about the stuffed husky on top of that speaker? Random yet cool.

10:02 pm: John Mayer wins for Best Male Pop Vocal. Up next: Adele with country group Sugarland. This is quite a girl power performance. Adele's voice makes us happy on the inside.

10:19 pm: RADIOHEAD!!!!! They just made this night worth it. There's a reason why we love them kids, and it's because they always think of amazing new things to do. Like getting a freaking mindblowing marching band wearing their t-shirt that read "You used to be alright, what happened?" to play a song. And Mr. Thom Yorke didn't hold back and pleased us with his trademark dance freak out. We now know what performance we'll be youtubing non-stop. Oh yeah, and Gwyneth Paltrow  looked pretty good in yet another sparkle heavy getup when she introduced them.

10:30 pm: Justin Timberlake and T.I. make another appearance to belt it out together. We're still in recovery from RH!

10:38 pm: Jamie Foxx, Ne-Yo sing the Four Tops... snooze, they need to cranck this up... it's getting pretty boring!

10:46 pm: Neil Diamond wakes us up with his classic "Sweet Caroline," it doesn't seem probable but we totally belted it out in the living room and transported to a place where we have pink feather boas around our necks. Goof times never feel so good, so good!

10:51 pm: Nice to see Ismael "Cachao" Lopez acknowledged in the encore. Rest in peace, sir.

10:56 pm: More slow acts with Keith Urban, John Mayer and B.B. King lulling us all. How come we have not seen anymore awards in a while? This is definitely a performance-driven ceremony. We want some juicy acceptance speeches, now!

11:05 pm: After a pretty cool performance that brought New Orleans to the Grammys, Lil Wayne wins Best Rap Album for his best-selling "Tha Carter III" and bring a trillion people on stage, how rapper appropriate ha!

11:18 pm: The always adorable Zooey Deschanel presents Grammy Award sweepers Robert Plant and Alisson Krauss who get down easy.

11:22 pm: Green Day presents: Best Album of the Year, who will it beeeeee.....Raising Sand by Robert Plant and Alisson Krauss. Really??? We bet on anything except this! There goes our money.

11:28 pm: Well kiddos, it was a pleasure bringing you the play by play of the event. The Grammys and us are saying goodbye with Stevie Wonder playing in the background. What did you think? Was this ceremony cool or was it missing some action? Did your favorites win?
